Scotland prop Allan Jacobsen knows he must maintain his standards if he is to keep being selected for Edinburgh – despite closing in on 200th appearance for the club.

The durable forward celebrated his 30th birthday at the start of this week and is now poised to chalk up his double century of Edinburgh games in the Celtic League match at Newport Gwent Dragons.

He made his debut for Edinburgh against the touring ACT Brumbies in November 1997 and signed a professional contract prior to the 1999/2000 season.

Jacobsen said: “It is difficult to put into words what playing for Edinburgh means to me.

“Obviously a lot has changed since I was first involved with Edinburgh, but I have enjoyed every minute of it so far and I’m looking forward to many more years here at the club.

“Reaching my 200th appearance is definitely a big thing for me and my family, but at the end of the day it is just a number.

“With so many hungry young players in the squad I know I have to keep playing well in order to keep my place.”
