Edinburgh lock Steven Turnbull hopes to catch the eye of watching Scotland boss Andy Robinson ahead of a hectic festive schedule that will no doubt influence RBS 6 Nations selection.

The 22-year-old has made six successive starts for Edinburgh and with Sunday’s Magners League top-of-the-table clash billed as a national selection game – Turnbull knows it’s time to impress.

Al Kellock will be playing for Glasgow and Turnbull hopes to make a significant statement that will see Robinson make a surprise selection come February.

“This is the type of game I’m relishing because Glasgow will be fielding an international lock in Al Kellock which means a chance to measure my progress,” said Turnbull.

“Getting a run of games has been a big step forward and, while trying to ensure an Edinburgh win is all-important, I am aware that the New Year will see a string of representative matches.”

Having been capped at age-group level for Scotland under-19s, Turnbull is entitled to set his sights on an outing for Scotland ‘A’, even not the full side, sooner rather than later.
