Euan Murray admits he is eyeing up his place in the history books as he bids to help Scotland to a first-ever victory over New Zealand this autumn.

The All Blacks will arrive in Edinburgh on November 15 full of confidence having never lost to Scotland in 29 previous meetings, this run dating back to their first clash in 1905.

Prop Murray, who featured just once off the bench in this year’s RBS 6 Nations, knows exactly what defeat to the reigning world champions feels like, having been in a losing Scottish side against New Zealand in both 2010 and 2008.

However that doesn’t mean the 34-year-old is about to wave the white flag anytime soon, adamant there is no better time to turn the tables against the All Blacks than the present.

“I am looking forward to it,” Murray told the Daily Record. “It is a good run of games against top-quality teams and hopefully we will get that win against New Zealand which has eluded us for the last 100 years and more.

“That would be nice. But it is always difficult when you play the All Blacks. They are always a good team, they have loads of talent in depth and we need to be playing our very best to beat them but I think we can do that.”
