Wesley Fofana could be in line for a return to the France team this weekend for their RBS 6 Nations clash with Scotland and the Clermont ace hopes it is in the centres that he is recalled.

Equally capable in midfield or on the wing, Fofana’s versatility has impressed Guy Noves in much the same way it did his predecessor Philippe Saint-Andre.

Fofana missed the start of the Championship with injury but has returned in recent weeks for his club and was recalled by Noves to train with Les Bleus ahead of the Scotland game.

And while Fofana could be in line for a wing berth – a problem position for Noves at the moment due to injuries and lack of depth – the man himself knows where his best position is.

“I have never hidden the fact that I prefer to play in the centres,” he told Midi Olympique.

“But when you are young and starting out in the game, you want to score tries.

“As you get older, you want to expand your game, to read attacks and open opportunities for others. One can get just as much joy from that, as from scoring a try yourself.”

Should Fofana earn a recall this weekend, he will be locking horns with his former club coach Vern Cotter who is now in charge of Scotland.

And Fofana had paid respect to the man responsible for giving him his big break at the Stade Marcel Michelin.

“Vern is a very good coach, he has a military strict style which works really well,” he added.

“He creates a winning culture that bleeds into the players and what Vern has accomplished with Scotland is already very impressive.

“He was not soft. I must say that I was not the same person as I am today. I was very nonchalant, unpolished almost. I arrived late for training . Sometimes I missed them altogether. He was both very patient and very hard on me.”

France kicked off this year’s Championship with back-to-back narrow wins over Ireland and Italy but slipped to defeat last time out against Wales.

And Fofana admits that Les Bleus have not hit the high notes in this year’s Championship and is hoping he can help them come good.

“With the players that we have available to us, we can do some real damage once our gameplan has clicked,” he added.

“From my point of view, I know that no-one is undroppable or guaranteed a place in the France team.”
