There may not have been any fans in Twickenham on Saturday to witness the first Scotland victory at England Rugby HQ in 38 years, but that doesn’t mean that the historic occasion wasn’t celebrated just as emphatically.
Duhan van der Merwe crossed for the only try of the game as Gregor Townsend’s side ran out 11-6 victors in London, and rugby fans were quick to post on social media to toast the occasion.
There were also plenty of former players taking to Twitter to share their thoughts after a superb performance from the visitors, who left last year’s Guinness Six Nations champions rattled on their own patch.

And we start with the Scotland team themselves, as they celebrated getting their hands on the Calcutta Cup once again, just as they did in the inaugural meeting between the two sides 150 years ago.
There were plenty of famous Scottish faces keen to celebrate the historic result, with Outlander star Sam Heughan among those revelling in getting one over on their old rivals.
Meanwhile, former Scotland great Jim Hamilton took some time out of his television duties to Tweet his verdict on the game; echoing the thoughts of most watching on.
And there was one very special message for the Scotland team, with Princess Anne sending her best wishes after watching on from home.
First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon also expressed her delight at the result.
She was not the only politician to reflect on an incredible first day of the 2021 Guinness Six Nations, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson in no doubt that the best team won.
And even in defeat, a number of England names from Championships gone by took to social media to congratulate Scotland, who were more than good value for the victory.
In fact, it wasn’t just those associated with the two teams involved that were singing the praises of Townsend’s side, with former Wales captain Sam Warburton also getting involved on social media.
Warburton was also keen to pick out the individual performance of Scotland captain Stuart Hogg, who led by example from first whistle to last at Twickenham.
And there was always going to be one or two who were eager to rub it in some more….
Elsewhere, presenter Gabby Logan also took to Twitter to post a video of the final whistle celebrations from her husband and former Scotland international Kenny and their son.
But at the end of the day that’s exactly what the Guinness Six Nations can bring, the drama, the excitement, the unpredictability, with Wales great Jonathan Davies summing it up in 140 characters or less.
Championship veteran Jamie Roberts needed even fewer words to sum up his thoughts, in fact he needed just three to describe one of Scotland’s best performers.
It wasn’t just former players that were taking a keen interest in the goings on at Twickenham, with a number of famous faces glued to their television screens during Saturday’s affair.
