Uncapped Edinburgh pair George Taylor and Charlie Shiel are among three players to have been called into the Scotland squad as they prepare to take on Wales this weekend.
Glasgow Warriors prop D’Arcy Rae, whose sole cap came in 2019, is the other player to have been drafted in by Gregor Townsend while four players – Ewan Ashman, Blair Kinghorn, Jamie Dobie and Rufus McLean – have been released back to their clubs.
Taylor, a 24-year-old centre, has international experience at age-group level and played in the Under-20 Six Nations in 2016, scoring against Ireland.
He has made five Guinness PRO14 appearances for Edinburgh this season – as has Shiel, a 23-year-old scrum-half who has represented Scotland in international Sevens rugby.
The young No.9 is the son of former Scotland centre Graham Shiel, who played four times in the Championship in 1993 and also featured against Ireland in 2000.

26-year-old tighthead prop Rae, meanwhile, made his Scotland bow in Round 2 of the 2019 Guinness Six Nations, replacing Simon Berghan for the final 11 minutes of a 22-13 defeat against Ireland at BT Murrayfield.
Rae had previously been an unused member of Scotland’s Championship squad in 2018 and will hope to show what he can do in training as he seeks to add to his international appearances.
The trio are joining a buoyant squad who are fresh from becoming the first Scottish side to win a Calcutta Cup match at Twickenham since 1983, though captain Stuart Hogg insisted there would be no complacency going into the visit of Wales to Edinburgh.
“We are not going to get ahead of ourselves,” he said. “We will enjoy this one, no doubt, but then it is on to Wales next week.
“We’ll get back on the horse and ready to go because next week is another challenge for us and one we’re really excited about.”
