Grant Gilchrist believes Scotland can repeat their Calcutta Cup success in Paris, as they eye a rare away win at Championship-chasing France on Friday night.
Scotland had not won at Twickenham since 1983 before an inspired performance stunned England in Round 1.
And now they have another unwanted away record to set right, as they hunt a first win away to France since the 1999 Five Nations.
Scotland may have won three of their last five Championship matches with France but all of those came at BT Murrayfield.
They face the added difficulty of trying to deny Les Bleus the title but Scotland dashed France’s Grand Slam bid last year and could finish as high as second with a win on Friday.
Add in the fact that they are travelling with far greater confidence following that historic win at Twickenham in Round 1, and Gilchrist believes they can cause another upset.
“I think it would be a huge result if we can win in Paris,” he said.
“It will take a monumental effort from the whole squad to prepare this week, but if we can get the result over there it would be massive and a big momentum boost and a great way to finish the tournament.
“Has the win in London erased those ‘away day’ fears? I think so, we have performed well away from home in recent times.
“The boys won down in Wales at the end of last year’s Six Nations and then the win at Twickenham, it shows we can perform on the road.
“There are two sides to it, we understand the size of the challenge but we see it as an opportunity, but there is no reason why we can’t put our best game out there in France and no reason why we can’t win.
“We believe that, but we need to prove that on Friday.”
