England began the defence of their Women’s Six Nations title in style with a swashbuckling 52-10 victory over Scotland in Doncaster.
England No.8 Poppy Cleall was a relentless force throughout the game, crossing for one of eight tries in a Women’s Six Nations Player of the Match performance.
Cleall’s twin sister Bryony also dotted down, as did Marlie Packer, Leanne Riley, Lark Davies, Jess Breach and Helena Rowland before a late penalty try rounded out the scoring for the hosts.
Hannah Smith did cross the whitewash for a game Scotland side, who deserved that score and were unlucky not to dot down on a couple of other occasions, but the reigning champions served notice that they won’t be relinquishing their crown without a fight.
