Ange Capuozzo scored twice on his return from injury as Italy beat 14-man Romania 57-7.
Paolo Odogwu crossed the whitewash before Adrian Moțoc was shown a red card early in the first half.
Capuozzo, Monty Ioane, Alessandro Garbisi, and Giacomo Nicotera extended Italy’s lead, but the referee awarded a penalty try to Romania before the break.
After half-time, Juan Ignacio Brex, Dino Lamb and Toa Halafihi went over, with Capuozzo crossing for his second score.
Italy host Japan in the Summer Nations Series next weekend.
Capuozzo’s return to the international stage was greeted with joyful cheers from an exuberant crowd at the Stadio Riviera delle Palme, but it was Odogwu who caught the eye in the early stages.
The winger capitalised on a superb dummy from Paolo Garbisi, holding his width before crossing in the corner to score on only his second Italy appearance.
However, Romania would not go down without a fight as Mihai Mureșan pounced on a loose pass before blasting down the left wing.
He looked certain to score, but Garbisi showed he is as quick as he is skilful to make a covering tackle and keep his side ahead.
However, as Romania looked to retain possession at the breakdown, Adrian Moțoc’s shoulder collided with Italy captain Michele Lamaro’s head.
The referee showed the lock a straight red card with 71 minutes left to play, and the Azzurri wasted no time making their advantage count.
Garbisi was the provider again as Ioane crossed the whitewash with acres of space to play with.
The Garbisi brothers then linked up on their first international start together.
Alessandro Garbisi touched down underneath the posts to give Kieran Crowley’s side a 17-0 lead after 16 minutes, and his brother kicked the conversion to extend their advantage.
Capuozzo had his first moment in the sun in the 20th minute, marking his return with a try after pouncing on a deflected charge down and crossing in the corner.
Nicotera was the next to score for the hosts, powering over from inside five metres to record Italy’s fifth try.
Romania rallied, spending a decent portion of time inside Italy’s 22, and the pressure paid off with two minutes left of the half.
The referee awarded a penalty try after an impressive lineout drive from the visitors, with Lamaro being shown a yellow card for collapsing the maul.
Italy crossed the whitewash again just three minutes after the restart.
It was another outstanding assist from Garbisi, who cut through Romiania’s defence before feeding Brex to make it 38-7.
Then Capuozzo produced something special, but after he released the ball, Negri’s pass went to the ground and the referee called for a scrum.
Romania captain Cristi Chirica was shown a yellow for a high tackle as things went from bad to worse for the visitors.
Capuozzo made him pay, swan-diving over in the corner to make it 43-7.
However, Romiania continued to show heart and imagination.
After winning a scrum in Italy’s half, the visitor’s attempted a chip and chase that would have led to a try were it not for some quick thinking from Brex.
Nonetheless the Azzurri scored again on the 65th minute when Lamb got on the end of some good hands.
Halafihi went over with ten minutes left to play, powering through several defenders and squirming his way to the line.
But two minutes later Tevita Manumua got the crowd on their feet with an outstanding linebreak that brought Romania up to Italy’s try line.
It was not enough though, and Italy walked away as comfortable winners.
