Five Minutes with Josh Hathaway

Josh Hathaway
We sat down with 20-year-old Josh Hathaway to spill the tea on his rugby journey, and what keeps him busy when he's not scoring hat-tricks!

Coffee of choice?

I’m a tea man, me. I’m trying to stay away from it!

Who would play you in a biopic?

Taron Egerton, he’s got a house in Aberystwyth [where Hathaway is from], so I will give him a shoutout.

Is there a player you wish you could have played with?

Leigh Halfpenny. I hope to at some point.

And who are you glad to have never played against?

Dan Carter or Richie McCaw. Wouldn’t like to face either of them!

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

From the age of 11 until 14, I was going to pick football over rugby.

If you could play any other position, what would it be and why?

Hooker, so I could get loads of maul tries.

What film or TV show do you feel is overrated?

Prison Break is very overrated.

Favourite TV show and Book?

My favourite TV show must be Gangs of London, I don’t read much, but if would have to go with one it would be Of Mice and Men. What a classic from school!

If you could be a professional sportsperson, what would you choose and why?

Footballer, obviously - just loads of cash!

Music of choice?

RnB all the way.

What does a perfect day off look like for you?

First of all a lie-in, then a big breakfast, followed by coffee and cards with the boys! Then finish it off by slapping on the Xbox in the afternoon.

Favourite U20 Six Nations memory?

It would have to be my hat-trick when I played for England against Scotland in 2023. When I scored the first was on top of the moon, then the second came within minutes and the third was an unbelievable feeling!

What was the feeling like when you got your first senior cap for Wales?

It was surreal. I remember running out and singing the anthem, but I have no memory from the game, it’s all pretty buffered.

Rugby aspirations over the next five years?

More caps for Wales! I would love to play in the 2027 Rugby World Cup and go on the 2028 Lions Tour.

What's on your bucket list of things you'd love to do in your life?

1) Travel around Australia. 2) Bungee Jump, although I hate heights. 3) Shark cave diving.

Which teammate would you take backpacking across the world with you?

From Gloucester, it would have to be Morgan Adderly-Jones. Then from Wales, it would be Nick Tompkins. He would be a great laugh along the way
