The votes are in and you, the fans, have voted Scotland winger Duhan van der Merwe as the Player of the Round for Round 1 of the inaugural Autumn Nations Cup.
Coming up against Ireland duo Caelan Doris and James Lowe, as well as England hooker Jamie George, Van der Merwe’s display in the 28-17 victory over Italy was enough for you to crown him as the best.
In a hard-fought contest, the Scot received 39% of the public vote, with George garnering 25.2% in second spot ahead of Lowe (20.6%) and Doris (15.2%).
The winger has that rare combination of size, speed and elusiveness, making him a nightmare for defenders to stop, as proven by the remarkable 143 metres he made from just eight carries in victory over the Azzurri.
He also broke five tackles as he consistently put Scotland on the front foot and crossed for a try when he ran a gorgeous line to collect a fizzed Ali Price pass and scythe through the defensive line to touch down.
Being named Player of the Round for Round 1 was just reward for his performance and he’ll look to back it up when Scotland host France in Round 2 on Sunday.
