French rugby in the 1980s was littered with Philippe Sella scores and the winger unsurprisingly features on our list of the decade’s best.
Sella, who amassed 111 caps for Les Bleus during his career, was never far from a dash down the line or a lightning side-step and his try against England in 1983 was a great example, picking up neatly and scoring in the corner.
Patrick Esteve also grabbed an eye-catching score in that game, while Sella’s effort against Wales the following year was yet another demonstration of his athletic prowess.
Other tries to make the grade were Serge Gabernet’s exquisite one-two with Jean-Luc Averous against Scotland in 1980 after the full-back had calmly collected a high ball deep inside his own half.
Elsewhere, Pierre Berbizier’s quick thinking and even quicker feet capitalised on a sloppy Gavin Hastings kick-off in 1986 and Jean-Baptiste Lafond completed a neat team move against Ireland in 1989 to complete our list.
