Newport centre Rhodri Gomer-Davies has criticised Wales coach Warren Gatland for a lack Dragons in his squad for the RBS 6 Nations.
The majority of Gatland’s 35-strong squad come from the Blues and Ospreys with only two – lock Luke Charteris and back row Dan Lydiate – selected from the Dragons.
Teenager wingers Kristian Phillips and Tom Prydie – both from Ospreys – have been picked in favour of Newport duo Aled Brew, who has three Welsh caps, and Richard Fussell.
And Gomer-Davies – who himself is uncapped – believes Gatland’s snub of Brew and Fussell in favour of youth and guile could prove to be the wrong one.
“I’m disappointed perhaps our wingers haven’t had feedback about their performances, said Gomer-Davies.
“But only Warren Gatland can answer, for me they thoroughly deserved a look in. Ales and Richard have been playing some consistently good rugby for us.
“I play with them week in, week out and they are important players for us, who put us on the front foot.
“I was surprised, like a lot of people, that he went for a couple of young, inexperienced wingers. But obviously they are very talented players and will be two to watch for the future.”
