England were crowned RBS 6 Nations champions following France’s 28-9 defeat of Wales.
Martin Johnson’s men always seemed to have one hand on the title as they headed into the final round with a massive 42-points advantage over second-place Wales.
But the first half of that equation appeared to be on the cards as Ireland ended England’s Grand Slam hopes in a 24-8 defeat.
Yet Wales could not deliver on the second half as France turned on the style in Paris.
England captain Nick Easter admitted the title was scant consolation after being blown away in Dublin.
“It [the RBS 6 Nations title] does mean anything at the moment but we have made strides this season,” said Easter speaking immediately after the match. “It does mean much at all.
“They were the better team and we were second best. We were playing catch up from the first 20 minutes.”
