Leicester fly-half Toby Flood put his name forward to be England’s first choice RBS 6 Nations No.10 by kicking 12 points in the Tigers 34-8 demolition of Wasps.

Flood – in his second season with the Tigers – was in fine form with the boot to overshadow opposite number Danny Cipriani.

Toulon’s Jonny Wilkinson appears to be in possession of the England fly-half jersey but Flood’s performance at Welford Road is sure to have caught manager Martin Johnson’s eye.

Wasps took the early lead when full-back Mark van Gisbergen scored on five minutes.

Flood missed a kick at goal but made up for that error on 14 minutes before Cipriani got on the board to make the score 8-3 to the visitors.

But the Tigers were dominating up front and tries from Johne Murphy and Australian Lote Tuqiri put the home side in control.

Flood extended the lead with another penalty before referee Romain Poite awarded Leicester a penalty try.

Tuqiri ran in for his second of the game 17 minutes from time as Leicester went top of the Premiership table.
