England head coach Eddie Jones has urged his players to provide the perfect response to their disappointing opening-round 24-17 defeat against France.
The Red Rose are looking to bounce back immediately by securing a first win against Scotland in three years, as they look to regain the Calcutta Cup.
While acknowledging that his side were below par against a rejuvenated France side, Jones called upon his players to keep their composure for what he expects to be a tough test at BT Murrayfield on Saturday.
The 60-year-old told BBC Sport: “We understand we let ourselves and the fans down, but we are hell-bent on redemption against Scotland. Composure is always important in rugby but probably more so at BT Murrayfield.
“They will try to distract us and do things to put us off our game and we have to make sure we are on our own game.”
While the England supporters were left frustrated with how the 2016 Grand Slam winners performed in Round 1, Jones made it clear that the players were too bitterly disappointed.
Amidst the despondency within the squad, the backroom staff have tried to limit the amount of social media the players are subjected to following the result.
He said: “That noise is always a factor and more so today with social media – it is in the players’ faces.
“They like social media, they want to be a part of social media and when it turns like this, it is difficult for them. We have to make sure they keep their focus.
“They have to understand what is important. There will always be criticism, there will always be praise, we just have to ensure it doesn’t have too much of a negative effect.”
