Sale scrum-half Dwayne Peel has given Wales boss Warren Gatland an RBS 6 Nations injury concern after picking up a knock in the Sharks’ Heineken Cup defeat against Cardiff Blues on Saturday.
Peel had to be withdrawn after 53 minutes of the 36-19 defeat and the 28-year-old is now a potential doubt for Wales’ 6 Nations opener against England.
Sale coach Kingsley Jones said: “If he is a doubt then of course it’s not good news for Wales.”
On the field Cardiff gave themselves a fighting chance of qualification for the knock-out stage of the Heineken Cup with the victory thanks largely to 18 points from the boot of Ben Blair.
Tries from Ritchie Rees, Bradley Davies, and Xavier Rush completed the convincing win, which puts the Blues second in Pool Five with one match remaining.
Blues boss Dai Jones said: “It’s probably a little bit out of our hands. All we can do now make sure we prepare well this week, and go to Harlequins and try to get a result there, but it’s not going to be easy.”
Meanwhile, the Ospreys suffered a 27-7 humbling at the hands of Clermont Auvergne, leaving their Heineken Cup hopes in the balance.
