Wales Under-20s prop Nicky Smith has set his sights on the Junior World Championship this summer after ending their Under-20s Six Nations campaign on a high note.
Smith was named man of the match in Wales’ thumping 43-15 win over Scotland which cemented their third-place finish.
In comparison to last year’s Championship it didn’t measure up, Wales went into their final match against England chasing the Grand Slam 12 months ago but this year, defeats to the Red Rose and France saw them finish with just three wins to their name.
Next up is the Junior World Championship in New Zealand however and Smith is determined to emulate the class of 2013 which made the final, only to sink to defeat to England.
“All the boys will go back to their clubs now and hopefully play well. We really want to go far in the Junior World Championship,” said Smith.
“I’m pretty sure with the quality we have in the squad that we’ll do well.
“I’m pleased with my performance but you have to do it as a pack – the boys have been great in the set piece all tournament.
“Finishing third isn’t bad but we did have higher expectations. We lost two games due to our performances and hopefully if we play France and England again it will be a different result.”
