Simon Zebo continued to give Declan Kidney a timely reminder of his try-scoring skills with a fine double for Irish province Munster on Saturday.

The 21-year-old has now scored five tries in his last two games for Munster and also touched down when he made his debut for the Ireland Wolfhounds against the England Saxons last month.

Kidney is only too aware of Zebo’s talents, having picked him as one of six ‘up and coming’ players to train with senior 24-man squad ahead of the first week of the RBS 6 Nations.

With the penchant for big wings on the modern international stage, Zebo’s frame fits the mould and he could yet find himself forcing his way into Kidney’s reckoning.

Should it come down to a reference, Zebo would be wise to ask McGahan to give his verdict on what he offers the national side.

“Simon is certainly a very important strike player for us,” he said.

“He has been terrific for us all season and he took his opportunities against Treviso very well, as he has been doing all season.

“But the important thing that he brings to the game is his work-rate.

“That, as well as his expert finishing, is what makes him so potent and it’s great to watch him on this kind of form.”
