France and Wales enjoyed strong showings on the opening day of the women’s Six Nations Under-18s Festival in Edinburgh.
The teams went two from two in their matches, each playing 35-minute affairs on a day when six games were played in all.
Wales saw off Scotland and then Italy, not conceding a point in the process, while France were too strong for Ireland and then England.
The Welsh got the ball rolling with an impressive 24-0 win over the host nation, with two tries in the final minutes to cap off a four-try showing.
They followed that up with a hard-fought affair against Italy, dominating territory for long periods on their way to a 14-0 win.
France, meanwhile, were equally dominant, powering to a 26-0 success against Ireland in their first game of the day.
They did trail in their final match against England, going down 7-5 after five minutes before four unanswered tries allowed them to pull away and record a 29-7 success.
England had earlier got the better of Ireland in one of the closest games of the day, running out 17-12 victors thanks to a try a minute from time to snatch victory.
And in the other match, there was a rare scoreless encounter as Scotland and Italy played out a stalemate.
