With over 100 points scored in Saturday’s two matches, Round 2 of the 2021 Women’s Six Nations was yet another spectacle to behold.
Whether it was Abby Dow lighting up the stage in Parma or the super slick start of Ireland in their 45-0 victory over Wales, there was quality on show throughout the day with tries and points aplenty.
England sealed their spot at the top of Pool A with their 67-3 victory over Italy, having won both their matches in this year’s Championship, as they turned up the heat in the second-half with seven tries in another scintillating performance.
And later in the day it was the turn of the Irish to put on a clinic, as braces from Beibhinn Parsons and Eimear Considine wrapped up the bonus point with the opening 20 minutes for Adam Griggs’ side before three more scores got them off to the perfect start in this year’s Championship.
But it wasn’t just on the field where the drama was happening. Plenty of you were joining in with the action at home, so let’s take a look at some of the best of what social media had to offer.
And we start with the England team, who continue to sweep aside all that come before them at the moment, with another red-hot performance seeing them record an amazing 13th straight Championship victory.
The team continue to go from strength to strength and will be looking to wrap up a third straight Women’s Six Nations crown in Super Saturday finals weekend on April 24th.
England great and Women’s Six Nations ambassador Maggie Alphonsi was also keen to congratulate Simon Middleton’s side, with the former flanker blown away by the Red Roses’ super second-half showing.
It was a watching brief for England’s most capped player Rochelle ‘Rocky’ Clark this weekend, as she joined in on the radio coverage.
Attention then turned to Cardiff, where Ireland ran riot in the opening 20 minutes to slingshot themselves into an early advantage over Wales, with Beibhinn Parsons helping herself to an early brace in the Welsh capital.
And the Irish performance didn’t go unnoticed by fellow sports stars who were watching on, with football star Louise Quinn showing her delight at the full-time whistle.
While Galway United coach Lisa Fallon was mesmerised by the pace of the nippy winger as she crossed for her side’s third score.
It was a proud day for these three young Irish stars, who all received their first international caps in the showdown in Cardiff.
Eve Higgins was solid as a rock starting at centre for the visitors, while Emily Lane and Stacey Flood both made an impact when coming off the bench in the second-half.
It will definitely be a day that those three will never forget.
Meanwhile, Ash was reinforcing what we all knew. It takes a lot to keep Siwan Lillicrap off the pitch – what a performance from the Welsh captain once again.
And finally, what are the words you think of when you think about the Women’s Six Nations?
Positive, strong, wow…. They are just some of the 150 that Stephen O’Leary has included in this nifty little number here.
