The 2020 Women’s Six Nations began with a bang as England edged a classic in France, Ireland held on to beat Scotland and Italy won on the road in Cardiff.

Although every match was tight – no side scored more than 20 points – the action was compelling, especially at the Stade du Hameau where England won 19-13.

Emily Scarratt’s second-half try proved the difference as England made it five wins in a row against their rivals, while Ireland’s bid for a first title in five years began with an equally-tense 18-14 win against Scotland.

Italy, who won three times in the 2019 Championship, also scored 19 points as second-half tries from Maria Magatti and Sofia Stefan saw the visitors beat Wales.
